About the Garden

The Churchill Park Community Garden is a rental garden plot facility in the Westdale District, Hamilton, and Ontario. The property is located in West Hamilton at the north end of Dalewood Cres., nestled in Churchill Park near a ravine that leads to Cootes Paradise, and shares its land with Hamilton’s Aviary. This year Ontario Public Interest Research Group (OPIRG) McMaster will be coordinating the approximately 75-plot community garden area.

The area is bounded by a manicured hedge and security fence and has a tapped water supply. There is ample parking available for a fee and a limited number of tools, wheelbarrows and watering cans are available for use by the gardeners. This no till garden’s season runs from Victoria Day Long Weekend in May until Halloween, October 31. Gates are open daily from 8am to 8pm May through August, and 8am to 1/2 hour before sunset September through October. Gardeners are responsible for weeding and general upkeep of their garden plot.

From 2011 to 2013 growing seasons the City of Hamilton will no longer be coordinating this community garden. A group of volunteers, the Churchill Park Community Garden Collective, will be overseeing the garden space on behalf of the Ontario Public Interest Research Group (OPIRG) McMaster.
